BIO
Born and raised in British Columbia, Canada, Jana Sasaki is a BFA graduate from Thompson Rivers University, and a recipient of the Helen Pitt award. Jana has exhibited her work locally and internationally in venues located in Japan, USA, Europe and the UK.
Her current body of work, “Living in the Hyphen-Space” explores the fertile space between two cultures that results in the miscegenation of being a Japanese-Canadian, a Hapa, a person of mixed racial heritage with partial roots in Asian ancestry. Jana searches for a greater understanding of her heritage as a Japanese-Canadian and the development of her identity and taste in aesthetics of Japanese traditions that developed through childhood influences such as being dressed up in kimonos and looking at Shodo calligraphy.
Jana Sasaki has moved away but continues printmaking.
